Alle kaks viikkoa jäljellä, joten muisteloidaanko ihanaa spring breakia ja meidän leidejen roadtripiä uljaan Skotlannin vuorien ja nummien lävitse. Me nimittäin pakattiin kimpsut ja kampsut, ostettiin Robert Gordon Universityn tiimipaidat ja viimeisenä päivänä maaliskuuta hypättiin uljaisiin vuokra-autoihin. Tää viikko oli niin täynnä uskomattomuuksia et koen helpoimmaksi tän reissun pätkimisen eri postauksiin.
Eka päivä alkoi yllätyksellä: myöhästyttiin meidän bussista. Vuokrattiin autot lentokentällä sijaitsevalta vuokraamolta ja meidän oli tarkoitus suunnistaa sinne 7:30 bussilla. Se kuitenkin oli etuajassa, tarkoittaen sitä että me myöhästyttiin siitä ja jouduttiin odottamaan puol tuntia seuraavaa. Kun viimein päästiin vuokraamolle, meidän autojen kanssa meinas olla hässäkkää ja koko operaatio oli melkoista savottaa. Onneksi loppu hyvin kaikki hyvin, saatiin autot ja matka pääsi starttaamaan.
Meillä oli siis kaks autoa, sillä meitä oli 7 eikä kukaan halunnut ajaa isoa autoa johon olisi kaikki mahduttu. Täällä on vasemmanpuoleinen liikenne, joka aluksi tuotti pieniä haasteita. Oon superyllättynyt kuinka nopeasti vasemmalla ajamiseen tottui ja mä päädyin ajamaan koko viikon "omaa autoani". Meitä kuskeja oli vain kolme ja toiset kaksi kuskia väsyivät nopeasti ajamiseen. Meikä vanha viikinki ja etäisyyksien kuningas tottuneena pitkiin ajomatkoihin huristelin päivästä toiseen ja vasta yhden päivän lähes 10 tunnin ajorupeama tuntui tuskaiselta. Palataan siihen kuitenkin toiste.
Lauantaina ajettiin Aberdeenista Invernessiin, nähtiin Loch Ness ja huristeltiin Kyle of Lochalshiin jossa meidän eka mökki oli. Loch Nessin rannalla nenuihimme kantautui kuolleen peuran mehukas tuoksu, sillä joku peuraparka oli ilmeisesti jäänyt auton alle ja raato oli nakattu tien reunan pusikkoon. Pysähdyttiin myös Eilean Donanin linnalla, ihan vain koska voitiin. Roadtrip best.
Mökin löytäminen oli yllättävän tuskaista, sillä tuhansien metsäteiden ja surkeiden ajo-ohjeiden labyrintissä oli uskomattoman hankalaa haahuilla. Mökki haisi vanhalle ja ummehtuneelle, tiedättehän sellaiset mummoloiden "kesäpuolet" joita käytetään lähes vain varastoina. Nurkissa hiippaili hämppyjä, seinällä oli täytetty peuran pää ja piha oli niin pieni, että mun armas Tucson ei meinannut mahtua kääntymään. Näköala oli kuitenkin kaiken sen arvoinen. Isle of Skyen vuoret auringonlaskun aikaan olivat uskomaton näky. Kaiken lisäksi me yövyttiin vaan 3 yötä, joten kaikki hyvin.

Very good day to ya’ll!Less than two weeks left of my exchange, so I think it’s finally time to go through all the beautiful memories of our roadtrip which we did during spring break. We drove through the famous highlands of Scotland, saw countless amount of sheep and mountains and hundreds of miles of asphalt. So we packed our bags, rented cars, bought RGU themed team sweaters and started the trip on 30th of March. The roadtrip was so full of amazing events and action that I think it’s better I do one post per every day of the trip.
First day we missed our bus to the airport, from which we were supposed to go get our cars. The bus was early, so we had to wait half an hour for the next one. When we got to the airport there was some fuss with the cars, but happily ever after and we got them. We had two cars and three drivers, and at the end I drove one car for the whole week and the other two drivers drove the other car. I love to drive, so I really enjoyed driving my dear Tucson. Driving at the left side of the road was interesting at first, but after 15 minutes it felt like I’ve done it my whole life. One day was a bit challenging, including almost 10 hours of driving, but I’ll come back to it later.
So, on Saturday we left Aberdeen, drove through Inverness, stopped at Loch Ness for pictures and continued to Kyle of Lochalsh. At Loch Ness we saw – and smelled – a dead deer by the road, so the photoshoot by the loch didn’t exactly last for long. On the way we stopped to see this pretty Eilean Donan Castle, just because. I love roadtrips.
Finding the cabin was a challenge itself. We got the worst driving instructions, it was hidden beyond these small roads and forest and it had the smallest yard ever. It smelled very old, there were spiders spying on us in every corner and there was an actual deer head. But the view from the window was worth it, the mountains in Isle of Skye and sunset above them was something I bet I’ll never forget. And we stayed only for 3 nights, so all was well.
